Thomas's new book, Amateur, landed him on the cover of The Guardian and has garnered rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Man Alive, his award-winning first book, received starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus, and made several year-end "best-of" lists, including NPR's. Thomas has been profiled by Time, Esquire, and Guernica, and was featured recently on Marketplace, the BuzzFeed morning show AM to DM, the BBC program Start of the Week, and has also appeared on WNYC's The Takeaway, and on Canada’s national CBC radio.
Thomas is a leading speaker on masculinity, trans media narratives, and the importance of diverse perspectives in journalism. He has been reporting on the "masculinity crisis" and related issues since 2011, taught at the City University of New York’s Graduate School of Journalism, is the author of two books on gender, and is a regular media commentator for NPR and other outlets. He has given talks at over a dozen colleges and institutions, including Google and Facebook.
